What to do with photos that don't match The client-provided photos came from 6 different sources. Each was inconsistent in everything from lighting to focus. Tight cropping and overprinting of photos with testimonial copy helped the situation up to a point. In addition, the placement of green caption boxes flush with the photos was intentional as it served to visually unify the picture area. The resulting design solution is a newsy, topical look that works hard to divert harsh scrutiny from photo quality.
Look to a subject's special characteristics for design inspiration With the manuscript, came one stunning collection of photography. Sixteen lighthouses in all were to be included in the booklet. Because they are so beautiful, it made sense that their presence should dominate the pages. But because their names and histories are also special, they too needed to be treated well. More than just nice small caption-like copy that does a good job of complimenting the image. Since lighthouses are tall, tall initial caps provided a typographical design concept that related well to the images.
