raphic designers who become adept at adding words to visual concepts often take on writing and creative direction responsibilities, too. And so it has been for me. Where to draw my line has always been the question. The answer comes with experience which defines the kinds of writing that we can do well without jepordizing our creative comfort zone. That's the zone that ensures a unique solution will come in plenty of time to avoid the ghastly fear of missing a deadline. As it has turns out, headlines and short copy messages fit the most productively into my range of abilities. I especially enjoy the thinking that goes into fine tuning a headline until it is sure of capturing the intended audience. For me, this ongoing attention to the headline serves as positive catalyst for developing an entire creative message. As those first words get better and better, so too does the supporting image and copy improve. |

This ad is about an insurance salesman who cares. He has a long record of doing many wonderful things on the job. At the bottom of his bio, however, it also mentions that he does some volunteer work with disabled kids. That's his own time we're talking about. Now, there is no question that we're learning about the true heart of a guy who deserves recognition. This experience taught me the importance of carefully studying everything to make sure that the headline capable of evoking the most credibility isn't missed.
